Department of Sports Sciences

Overview of Sports Sciences Discipline:
The field of Physical Education was first established in 1966 at the Faculty of Educational Sciences and Psychology of the University of Tehran as the Physical Education group. In 1968 and 1969, 35 male and 15 female students were admitted to this group. After a 13-year hiatus in student admissions, the group resumed limited admissions for undergraduate and master’s degree programs between 1981 and 1988.
In 1988, the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences at the University of Tehran was founded by merging the academic staff of the Physical Education group within the Faculty of Educational Sciences with physical education experts and faculty members. To establish the faculty, three educational groups were formed:

  • Health and Sports Medicine Group

  • Basics of Biological Sciences Group

  • Basics of Human Sciences Group

Upon the establishment of the Faculty of Physical Education and Sports Sciences, faculty members and experts were organized into different groups based on their relative expertise and personal interests, taking responsibility for conducting classes at undergraduate and master’s levels.
Core Theoretical Courses:
Undergraduate students are required to complete key theoretical courses as part of their curriculum, which provides them with a solid foundation in sports sciences.
